This would be fitting in the “About” section, but it deserves a full post. ”Why blog?” you — and half of my friends — ask.
Why dance?
At Barnard, there was a great class called “Dance in New York City” taught by Katie Glasner. She took us behind the scenes — literally — to talk to dancers, watch interviews and sit quietly pressed against the wall of a small studio. The dances were diverse, the dancers themselves even more so. All of them, however, no matter how much “success” they achieved, were starving artists at one point or another. And all of them, it seemed, would dance for free. And they did. As much as possible, they danced.
This is writing for free. Because emails to friends are getting too long, and at some point I realized that I wasn’t writing for them as much as I was for myself.
This is my free slice of sanity: in front of a computer screen or in the midst of great trees, and, given the paucity of redwoods in New York, I think I’ll be here often.
